following the success of ‘ride’ with miss kittin, eminent sci+tec founder dubfire returns with another chaos-conjuring techno composition. previously the sole-preserve of his epic sense-blurring hybrid show, dubfire is finally unleashing ‘dust devil’… his first solo release in several years, ‘dust devil’ is all about precision momentum. a move that dubfire’s made his signature, you can physically feel movement and destination throughout. especially as we reach the short breakdown where the riff revolves faster and higher, providing space for the echoed stabs that whirl and twist around you intensely. as the drums re-ignite, the riff is suddenly converted into groove energy as the jack-minded persistence brings the elements back together with pure focus. this is what ali has to say… “this was an instrumental i had done that i wasn’t quite sure what to do with. it wasn’t strong enough for a lead single and it always felt as though there was something missing, perhaps a spoken or sung vocal. so i sort of put it out of my mind until it was time to compile the music for the hybrid show back in the summer of 2013. once i had the backbone of the set list, along with the visual look, there seemed to be a more defined mood and look. and when i happened upon this track again it seemed to have been tailor-made for this show. it was also nice to insert something no one had heard before to break things up a bit.

2017 repress due to high demand and crazy online prices!! santuri s embaire umeme ep got a worldwide premiere from gilles peterson on a never-ending quest to support and exposure far off musical cultures around the world, the next on the corner releases sees them look to uganda. teaming up with santuri (an east african electronic music innovation project) and soundthread (a creative development non-profit), they have worked alongside the mugwisa international xylophone group with modern recording techniques and further re-arrangement on two remixes. the first, by sam jones, was premiered last week by stamp the wax, and today ushers in the second by alejandro mosso. a thudding kick drum at the first beat aims this one straight towards the early evening dancefloor. working in unison with samples from the giant wooden xylophone and conversations between the musicians, serves to place the track back into its original context and is allowed to settle for a couple minutes, before what sounds like a kora or zither brings a far-eastern twist. with the slow-burning, steady elements of a balearic production and the beguiling hypnotism of steve reich s work this is a big worldwide favourite.

flottant releases cuts right through the misconception that floating and dancing fall at two opposite ends of the same spectrum. from a1, a minimal house cut full of an energetic tension that inevitably resolves into a sentiment of hopeful nostalgia, to a b side which floats far nearer its pulse, with b1 offering a clear feeling of resolution whilst still immersed in spacey elements that groove in a timeless rhythm, and b2 being punctuated by a more techno-driven groove that still flows amidst the floating atmosphere of the entire record, finding closure in a place of unapologetic happiness.

originally released in 1986, “alkaid” was the first solo release of deca following his debut appearance on the cult various artists compilation “angelo segreti” the original edition was published in a tiny edition on the independent italian label videoradio and to this day remains a rare and sought after album. following mothball and bordello’s continued work with deca, we are proud to make this diverse and fascinating collection of music available to a wider audience. on this instrumental lp we can hear elements of modern classical, synth-pop, dark ambient and even some middle eastern influence.

next up on the docket for acid camp records is a record created by duo john tejada and justin maxwell. the pair came together to make acr iii with two things in mind: creating sounds that put a smile on their face while possessing as much character as possible. the opening track, -i ve got acid (on my brain)- is a mind-bending wavetable freakout, the likes of which tejada and maxwell have been striving to do for years. using a vintage ems vocoder to create an original vocal sample, this track is bright, playful, & vivacious. -the name rolls in- is layered in an acid playground of sounds. a rhythmic track with a potent 303 bass line, prominent percussion, and that infamous vocoder back at it to create a distinctly groovy track. -field notes-, is a composition of celestial arrangements that is completely beatless. carried through by tiers of sounds, filters, and noisier elements, this track lulls the listener into an alluring sonic dreamscape.

hugo gerani’s esplore ep launches on cosi cosi - a freewheeling meander through a super casual house sound. it is true ‘club music’ built between social interactions and environments, with all the spice and intrigue of chance encounters and missed connections.
on the a, ‘she’s lying (roe st on the fone mix)’ channels the boisterous yet untroubled late night activity that goes into its namesake. it’s a perfectly broiled and basted club tune - a real, suburban classic. elsewhere there are organic and effusive beats, blinking with sensorial curiosities and vocal suggestions as well as elements of stark, scandinavian techno.

burnskis and jon woodalls constant sound sublabel constant black continues its march into the underbelly of heads down club tracks with this installment from the hitherto unfamiliar constant. whether it s burnski under a different guise remains to be seen, but the quality of the tracks is the prime concern here. the a1 track is the perfect blend of tech house, with a hooky rhythm section and all manner of shimmering sonic delights spread out on top. the a2 taps a more reduced house vein, keeping the beats slender and the melodic elements subtle and dubby. the b side cut seems to merge the two to create a bubbling slice of swinging funk for the subliminal generation.

returning with four tracks from four upcoming artists, lkr003 explores a variety of styles on the fringes of modern techno, with elements of industrial, noise, atmospheric ambience and clattering breakbeats forming an uncompromising whole.
on the a-side, strahinja arbutina’s brutal four-to-the-floor techno screamer ‘dehumidifier’ rattles the roof, leading into iazikzazubami’s slower, mysteriously murky ‘brmaa’, where visions of dark landscapes are conjured. on the b-side, consulate drags you further deep into the nightclub dungeon with his techno + breaks laden stomper ‘klattenburg’, while the ep is drawn to a determined close with hymns’ ‘map 7’, which gathers the eerie, robotic vibes of the previous cuts, and projects them into an energetic, mechanical climax.

2016 saw him release ‘the clay ep’ (with *that* physical graffiti tune) on new york’s seminal imprint mister saturday night as well as a track for a dirt crew recordings compilation. having recently remixed clap! clap!’s ‘hope’, jun kamoda’s debut for black acre is set for release in june.

london-based producer cera alba pairs up with vocalist zahra for a pair of tough tracks on jamie jones’ hottrax this june featuring a remix from stockholms tiger stripes. since his humble beginnings several years ago the newcastle-born artist has cemented a reputation for consistency, with releases appearing on the likes of hot creations, moon harbour, viva music, avotre, madtech and gruuv. as a dj he’s been making regular appearances across europe, including venues such as watergate berlin, sankeys ibiza, brixton academy london, not to mention festivals such as hideout. taking over me is a dark and moody roller from the get-go. robust drums and mesmerizing atmospherics form its basis whilst zahras soulful vocals and a cavernous low-end rumbles throughout to its rhythm as a piercing vocal and metallic elements ebb in and out of the mix. tiger stripes then provides a crunchy remix of taking over me, distorting zahras vocals whilst incorporating tantalizing synths into his own stomping rendition.

kalakuta soul records proudly presents the homewreckers new full length album, machinekiss. the ruhr valley-raised trio have been heavily involved in the underground dance music scene for many years and the soulfulness of their output is unquestioned. now machinekiss might come as their masterpiece. recorded over the past three years the album s nine tracks evolved out of a long in-depth investigation of blues and funk recordings from 1910 to 1980. as the sole sonic sources, the musicians - johannes ehmann, gregor pottmeier and krischan wesenberg - use their own music collections, making the work a reflection of their personal and collaborative history and backgrounds.micro particles of guitar chords, organ sounds and drum elements reappear in new contexts and are fused with contemporary synthesizer and bass motifs. the results are deep, rhythmic, complex and eccentric, leading the listener into the melancholic, more obscure sides of urban life.

kid drama’s debut metalheadz release is one that is set to shake up this 4-year-old alias as he heads in a direction that’s slightly more focussed on the dancefloor, whilst managing to subtly retain some of the elements that have seen him become so loved in the deeper and more experimental side of drum and bass. the ‘trife ep’ proves how much of a talent kid drama is, from the savage bassline in ‘brutal d’ to the late 90s techstep vibes of ‘articulation’ all the way to ‘payback’, which is a track that could have easily come out under his and boddika’s instra:mental moniker. this is an extremely well-rounded project and one we’re delighted to be releasing on metalheadz.
